MEXART 2025
Migration and Belonging, A Two-Year Open-Air Gallery
MEXART 2025 is presented by the City of Seattle and the Consulate of Mexico as part of the MEXAM Northwest Festival, the region’s month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Born from Mayor Harrell’s Many Hands Art Initiative and realized in collaboration with the City’s One Seattle Graffiti Team, the project transforms the Campus Parkway Corridor, in Seattle’s University District into a living gallery. Ten extraordinary Mexican and Mexican-American artists have been invited to create large-scale murals that speak to this year’s theme: Migration and Belonging.
At a moment when migration is too often discussed without the voices of migrants themselves, these murals offer a bold and lasting act of visibility, community, and cultural pride. Over the next two years, the installation will stand as an open-air gallery, inviting thousands of daily passersby to pause, reflect, and connect with the narratives inscribed on its walls.
MEXART is more than an art project. It is a collaborative effort between artists, the City of Seattle, and the Consulate of Mexico to center authentic voices, amplify creativity, and celebrate resilience across generations. Together, these murals remind us that art has the power to transform public space, spark dialogue, and weave cultural memory into the fabric of the city.
